Ann Arbor residents can help shape the future of the city’s parks, trails and recreation programs at two drop-in workshops this month.

The city is updating its Parks and Recreation Open Space Plan, known as the PROS Plan. The plan will guide how Ann Arbor prioritizes park improvements and pursues grant funding, according to a city announcement. The city partnered with Agency Landscape + Planning on the effort.

The two workshops are:

  • Thursday, Nov. 12, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ann Arbor District Library Downtown Branch, 343 S. Fifth Ave.
  • Saturday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park Arena, 2150 Jackson Ave.

Both are drop-in, so attendees can stop by anytime during the session. The city said the workshops will feature hands-on activities, conversations with the project team, activities for all ages and free food.

Hillary Hanzel, the city’s landscape architect capital project manager, said in the announcement that the workshops give residents a chance to share what’s working and where the city can improve. She said the input will help shape park investments for years to come.

Families are welcome.

The PROS Plan covers parks, natural areas, trails, recreation facilities and programs. The planning process, announced in September, will span nearly two years and includes surveys, focus groups and open houses. The team gathered residents’ ideas during summer visits to parks and community events.

Residents who cannot attend either workshop can fill out an online community survey. The survey asks how residents use parks, what matters most to them and what they want to see in the future. It closes Tuesday, Dec. 15.

The city said more opportunities to get involved will follow in spring 2027.
