Trinity Health Ann Arbor and Chelsea Hospital both ranked among Michigan’s top 10 in Newsweek’s America’s Best-in-State Hospitals 2027 rankings, the health system announced Thursday, Oct. 29.
Trinity Health Ann Arbor ranked No. 7 and Chelsea Hospital ranked No. 8, according to a Trinity Health Michigan press release.
They were among four Trinity Health Michigan hospitals recognized. Trinity Health Grand Rapids ranked No. 10, and Trinity Health Livingston also made the list.
“This recognition is a direct reflection of the dedication our physicians, nurses, clinicians and support teams bring to patient care every day,” Michelle Peña, regional chief nursing officer for Trinity Health Michigan, said in the release.
How the rankings work
Newsweek partnered with Statista to compile the rankings, which recognize 800 hospitals across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
According to Statista’s methodology, eligible general hospitals needed at least 50 beds and an overall rating of three stars or higher from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The rankings combine hospital quality metrics, reputation, patient experience and hospitals’ implementation of patient-reported outcome measures.
Quality information included CMS data, Leapfrog Hospital Survey data and accreditation and certification records. Medical professionals participated in a nationwide reputation survey in June and July 2026.
Patient experience scores incorporated the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey. That survey measures patients’ experiences during a hospital stay, according to CMS.
Hospitals participating in Statista’s survey on the use of patient-reported outcome measures received a separate implementation score. Those measures collect patients’ assessments of their health and functioning.
Leapfrog Hospital Survey data were included in the rankings for the first time this year.
Trinity Health Michigan operates nine hospitals and reports more than 28,000 full-time employees and a medical staff of more than 5,748 providers, according to the health system.
