The Warren Road bridge over U.S. 23 north of Ann Arbor is scheduled to remain closed through Nov. 15 for bridge replacement work. The closure appears in the Washtenaw County Road Commission's weekly schedule, also reported by MLive.

Shoulder closures on northbound and southbound U.S. 23 at Warren Road are also scheduled through the same date.

The bridge closure is one of several disruptions in a busy week of road work across Washtenaw County.

Warren Road reconstruction scheduled

A separate project adds to the Warren Road headaches. A contractor for the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) was scheduled to close roads in Ann Arbor Township on Monday, Oct. 19, for a resurfacing project, according to a WCRC advisory.

The advisory identifies three roads:

  • Warren Road between Whitmore Lake Road and Pontiac Trail
  • Gleaner Hall Road between Warren Road and Pontiac Trail
  • Joy Road between Whitmore Lake Road and U.S. 23

The work is expected to take about 10 business days. The advisory announces closures to through traffic while maintaining access for people who live or work within the affected area.

However, the weekly schedule lists intermittent lane restrictions on all three stretches Oct. 19–30, rather than through-traffic closures. Drivers should confirm current restrictions with WCRC.

Other closures this week

Bridge Road between Textile and Grove roads in Ypsilanti Township was scheduled to close Oct. 19 for work connected to the Ford Lake Dam Project, according to a WCRC advisory. The road is scheduled to reopen on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, then close again Wednesday, Nov. 4. The advisory estimates approximately four weeks of work overall, with dates subject to change.

A single lane closure is scheduled for westbound I-94 between Michigan Avenue and Grove Road in Ypsilanti on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Lane closures on eastbound M-14 between Newport Road and northbound U.S. 23 Business Route are scheduled through Nov. 15.

The Sharon Valley Road Bridge between Sharon Hollow and Meyers roads in Sharon Township is scheduled to remain closed through October 2027.

Background on the bridge

The weekly schedule lists March 23 as the start of the Warren Road bridge closure. WEMU reported in November 2025 that MDOT spokesperson Aaron Jenkins said the new bridge would have higher clearance to address a recurring problem.

"The new bridge will have a 16-foot-9-inch minimal vertical under clearance," Jenkins told WEMU in November 2025. "Hopefully, that will eliminate any high-load hits that have happened in the past."

All schedules are subject to change due to weather, the road commission said.
