Ann Arbor and AFSCME Local 369 reached a tentative three-year contract agreement Thursday, Oct. 29, after months of mediation and negotiations, according to the city’s Oct. 30 announcement.
The proposed agreement covers 2026 through 2028 and remains subject to union membership ratification and final city approval.
Local 369 represents about 300 city workers in jobs including sanitation, parks and recreation and administration, The Michigan Daily reported.
The city said the proposal would improve employee compensation and benefits to help recruit and retain workers. Its announcement does not include wage amounts or a ratification vote date.
“Every city service enjoyed by residents is provided by staff,” Mayor Christopher Taylor said in the release. “I’m delighted that we have come to a tentative agreement with AFSCME that honors the great work of our employees in a way that is fiscally sustainable.”
The agreement also includes measures intended to improve communication and cooperation between the city and union on staffing and operational needs, according to the city.
The previous contract covered 2022 through 2025. It listed a 2.25% cost-of-living adjustment for 2024 and a 0% adjustment for 2025, along with a $1,250 non-COLA lump-sum payment for 2025.
City Administrator Milton Dohoney Jr. said the tentative agreement “reflects our commitment to investing in our employees while being responsible stewards of public resources.”
The city said it would provide additional information after the approval process is complete.
