Ann Arbor Huron hosts Pioneer at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, in the 58th meeting of their crosstown football rivalry.

Both teams enter the game at 1-3 after picking up their first wins of the 2026 season in Week 4. The River Rats beat Skyline 28-10 on Sept. 18, while Pioneer routed Ypsilanti Lincoln 61-14 the same night, according to MLive. A loss Friday would drop either team to 1-4 overall, and a Huron loss would put the River Rats at 1-2 in the Southeastern Conference Red.

Huron quarterback Seth Payne leads the Ann Arbor area with 694 passing yards and 54 completions through four games, according to MLive's stat leaderboard. Receiver D'Real Smith, who leads the area with 29 receptions and 437 receiving yards, is Payne's primary target. Against Skyline, Payne completed 16 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown while rushing for another score. Smith hauled in seven catches for 126 yards and a touchdown in that game.

On Pioneer's side, senior receiver Demitirus Rendelman caught four touchdown passes and returned an interception for a score against Lincoln. Quarterback Cole Heys connected with Rendelman on all four first-half scoring strikes. Pioneer's 61 points were the program's highest total since a 69-point outing against Dexter in 2012, MLive reported.

Through four games, Heys has thrown for 382 yards and six touchdowns. Rendelman has five receiving touchdowns, second in the Ann Arbor area.

The series has tilted heavily toward Pioneer. Huron holds a 15-42 record across the first 57 meetings, according to michigan-football.com.

MLive reporter Greg Wickliffe, who went 30-6 on his picks this season, predicted Pioneer would win 32-28 in his Week 5 column. "The Pioneers have a more veteran roster, and I think that experience will play a part in them going on the road to steal a victory," Wickliffe wrote.

Huron is 0-2 at home this season, having lost to Woodhaven 34-20 on Sept. 3 and to Dexter in Week 3, according to MaxPreps, The River Rats' lone road win came at Skyline.

After Friday's game, Huron travels to Saline on Oct. 2 for another SEC Red matchup.
