Ann Arbor SPARK ranked No. 41 on a list of the nation's top 50 startup incubators and accelerators published Tuesday, Aug. 18, by TIME magazine and data firm Statista — a rank listed on SPARK's own facts-and-rankings page, since TIME's own article doesn't publish the full 80-organization list. SPARK says it is the only Michigan organization in the top 50.

The list identified the top 80 programs nationwide through an open application, alumni feedback, track-record analysis and expert recommendations. Techstars, MassChallenge and Tampa Bay Wave claimed the top three spots.

According to SPARK, most organizations ranked above it operate nationally or internationally, serving founders across multiple cities and countries. SPARK's programs are intentionally hyperlocal, focused on the Ann Arbor region since 2005.

The recognition follows a productive spring for SPARK's Entrepreneur Boot Camp. Eleven startups working in healthcare, cybersecurity, education, financial wellness, real estate technology, artificial intelligence and sustainability completed the most recent cohort, which celebrated its graduates June 9. Pyogenix earned the $25,000 grand prize, and LandClarity.ai took home a $10,000 runner-up award.

The Boot Camp guides founders through customer discovery and business validation while pairing them with experienced coaches, according to SPARK. SPARK also offers coworking space, mentorship, investment guidance and grants for bootstrapped founders.

The TIME ranking adds to a string of national nods for the city's startup scene: Dealroom ranked Ann Arbor No. 14 in North America for startup density in 2026, and Midwest Startups named it the No. 5 Midwest city for startups in 2025, including No. 1 for startup density, according to SPARK's rankings page.

SPARK's next major milestone is a2Tech360, its 10-day innovation festival running Sept. 22 through Oct. 2. The lineup includes the Sept. 23 Invest360 pitch competition, which will award $200,000 in total prizes to high-growth startups.
