Ann Arbor's 107-year-old Farmers Market in Kerrytown is getting a $51,000 boost from the Fair Food Network after City Council approved the grant Thursday, Aug. 6.
The resolution required eight votes to pass. The grant comes from Fair Food Network, which funds the market's Double Up Food Bucks program, though the resolution does not detail how the $51,000 will be spent. That program gives SNAP/Bridge Card holders a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $50 per day on fresh fruits and vegetables purchased at the market, located at 315 Detroit St.
Fair Food Network CEO Kate Krauss said in a June 2025 press release that the Double Up program delivers "triple impact: it puts more nutritious food on family tables, supports more than 1,000 Michigan farmers and local food producers, and keeps millions of dollars circulating in local economies."
Statewide in 2024, shoppers used SNAP and Double Up benefits to purchase $12.4 million in local produce, supporting more than 188,000 households and over 1,000 farmers, according to Fair Food Network.
The market, managed by Stefanie T. Stauffer, operates year-round with about 130 Michigan vendors. It is open Saturdays and Wednesdays, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., through December.
Three fall events cleared for street closures
At the same Aug. 6 meeting, council approved street closures for three community events on its consent agenda:
Festifall: Wednesday, Sept. 2. North University and East Washington streets between Thayer and Fletcher will close from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. for the University of Michigan Center for Campus Involvement's annual student organization showcase.
A2ZERO Green Fair: Friday, Sept. 18, 5–8 p.m. on Main Street. The 26th annual sustainability street fair features roughly 100 exhibitors focused on climate action and community resilience.
A2 Artoberfest: Saturday, Oct. 10 through Sunday, Oct. 11, in the Kerrytown area along Ann Street and North Fourth Avenue. The Guild of Artists and Artisans' sixth-year event features 90 jury-selected artists, live entertainment, food vendors and adult beverage offerings. Street closures begin Friday, Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. for setup and run through 9 p.m. Sunday. The Guild notes the exact location may shift due to construction on Ann Street.
What's ahead
The city is also planning a broader market study in 2026, with community engagement sessions to re-envision the Kerrytown site after the market office building was demolished in July 2025 due to structural issues identified in 2023, according to the city's Farmers Market page.
