U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell will take questions from residents about election security at a free public town hall Monday, Aug. 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Washtenaw Community College's Morris Lawrence Building.

Admission is free.

The event, billed as an "Eastern Washtenaw Town Hall on Election Security," arrives after President Trump in July dismissed the three remaining commissioners of the bipartisan Election Assistance Commission and publicly questioned voting machine security, Politico reported. The EAC manages federal election security grants to states, and its gutting leaves the agency without leadership ahead of the November general election.

Several state lawmakers will join Dingell on the panel. State Rep. Jason Morgan confirmed his own participation and the guest list on his official Facebook page: State Sen. Sue Shink, State Rep. Jimmie Wilson Jr., State Rep. Jennifer Conlin, State Rep. Morgan Foreman, State Rep. Carrie Rheingans and a representative from the Michigan Secretary of State's Office.

Dingell, who represents Michigan's 6th Congressional District, will face Republican Heather Smiley in November after both ran unopposed in the Aug. 4 primary, according to Michigan Advance.

Residents are asked to RSVP through a Google Form linked on the event listing. Those who cannot attend in person can watch a livestream on Dingell's Facebook page.

The town hall follows a separate senior event Dingell hosted at the Dexter Senior Center on Friday, Aug. 14, focused on healthcare and caregiving resources, WEMU reported.
