Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard lost 40-10 to Lumen Christi on Friday, Sept. 18, in a Catholic League AA Division game at Crowley Field in Jackson.

The defeat ends FGR's 3-0 start and drops the Fighting Irish to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in league play. Lumen Christi, the defending Division 6 state champion ranked No. 1 in its division, improved to 4-0.

Both teams entered unbeaten. FGR was ranked No. 5 in Division 5, according to MLive's pre-game coverage, and had rolled through its first three opponents. The Irish beat Whitmore Lake 53-12 in Week 2 and Detroit University Prep Science & Math 56-6 in Week 3.

Lumen Christi took control early.

The Titans forced a fumble on FGR's side of the field and scored first. FGR kicker Diego Hernandez answered with a 44-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 7-3, but Lumen Christi scored twice more before the first quarter ended. The Titans led 20-3 after one quarter and 27-3 at halftime, according to MLive's live scoreboard updates.

FGR starting quarterback Charlie Britnell left the game after taking a hard hit on a scramble during the first quarter. Tommy Frederick replaced him at quarterback. No update on Britnell's status was available in post-game reports.

The loss came against a Lumen Christi program that WILX described as a four-time defending state champion. Through four games, the Titans are averaging 41.75 points per game, according to MLive's game recap. Their first three wins came against Detroit Edison, Columbus Harvest Prep of Ohio and Traverse City St. Francis.

Heading into Week 4, Catholic League AA standings showed Dearborn Divine Child at 1-0 in conference play with a 3-0 overall record. FGR and Lumen Christi had been 0-0 in league play before the Sept. 18 game.

FGR's Week 5 opponent and game date have not yet been confirmed.
