The Michigan Theater will open its doors to drag performers, aerial acrobats, burlesque dancers and live figure drawing artists all at once on Saturday, Aug. 29, for an event called Nude Noir: A Celebration of the Human Form.
Tickets start at $65.
The 6 p.m. event at 603 E. Liberty St. lets attendees move freely through the historic theater to experience performances happening simultaneously in different rooms, according to MLive.
Ann Arbor-based Uplift, a drag organization with an existing partnership with Marquee Arts venues, will curate drag performances in the Main Auditorium. On the Smokler Stage, Detroit-based burlesque producer Margaux Royale will present burlesque shows. Detroit Circus will bring aerial and circus artistry to the evening.
The Ann Arbor Art Center, which regularly hosts open-studio figure drawing sessions at its 117 W. Liberty St. location, will conduct live figure drawing at the event. Artistic Boudoir, an Ann Arbor business, will offer boudoir photography.
Body painting, dance, contortion and an exhibition of figurative art round out the lineup.
Organizers told MLive the event aims to transform the theater into a living gallery showcasing local artists and performers from across the region. The event is one of the more unconventional bookings for the 1,610-seat auditorium, which is operated by the nonprofit Marquee Arts.
Tickets range from $65 to $100 and are available through marquee-arts.org.
