Pioneer shut out crosstown rival Huron 4-0 in boys soccer on Thursday, Sept. 17, with junior midfielder Dane Behm scoring twice in the second half and setting up the game's opening goal.

Behm assisted junior Jonah Regenbogen for a first-half goal in the 18th minute, then added two of his own after the break. Senior Sam Grand and Kai D'Souza combined for Pioneer's other first-half score. Huron managed just one shot on target all game.

"We're on a mission. Final four, state champs. ..." Behm told The Communicator, Pioneer's student newspaper, after the match. "We were hustling every play, making mistakes, forgetting about [our mistakes] and getting back [to defend]. I'm just so proud of our team for that."

The win came two days after Pioneer's 1-0 win over Southeastern Conference rival Saline on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Head coach Jon Sundermann said he leaned on his 25-player roster to manage the workload across both matches. He credited off-the-ball movement and emotional energy for the performance against Huron.

Even injured senior Aidan Salazar contributed from the sideline. Sundermann called him one of the most vocal players on the bench, the kind of leadership the coach said is "paramount to our success."

Huron junior Kaito Yoshida said the River Rats need to improve their communication and build-up play out of the back before October's MHSAA district playoffs.

Pioneer now sits at 13-1 overall and 6-0 in Southeastern Conference play, according to MaxPreps, with 44 goals scored and seven allowed on the season. The Pioneers are riding an 11-game winning streak.

The Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association (MIHSSCA) ranked Pioneer No. 2 in Division 1 in its poll for the week of Sept. 21, behind Troy at 8-0-1, as reported by MLive. Fellow Ann Arbor program Skyline checked in at No. 4. MaxPreps lists Pioneer No. 1 in Michigan by its own algorithm.

The Pioneers host Grand Blanc on Tuesday, Sept. 22, then travel to Canton on Saturday, Sept. 26. A city showdown against Skyline follows at home on Tuesday, Sept. 29, with a rematch at Skyline on Saturday, Oct. 3, and league matches at Bedford on Monday, Oct. 5, and at Stevenson on Thursday, Oct. 8.
